Jean-Baptiste is one of the most senior artists working on the Tiwi islands, creating artworks since 1985. Over the years Jean has created a dynamic visual language and original interpretation of cultural traditions, establishing herself as an influential and much respected artist at Tiwi Design and an important teacher custodian of Tiwi art and culture.

 Artist Statement: I love my painting, I love doing it. My husband, Declan Apuatimi taught me to paint. The designs are ones he taught me - he said:  “One day you will be an artist - you will take my place.”  Now I am doing that. Painting makes me alive.
