The fishing floats included in this collection were crafted in Santa Ana, from the soft wood Alstoiaa Scholaris, darkened with a mixture of charcoal and natural plant sap and bound with a volcanic rock (pumice) with bamboo strips. Traditional designs and decorative elements are incised into the wood. Motifs for floats include the fish-headed spirit (such as Tararamanu), shark, porpoise, garfish and bonito. The pumice stone on the bottom holds the float upright.
